Heat Wave!

Whew! 110 degrees in the shade yesterday! Braved the heat wave to go to the grocery store just so I could walk slowly through the frozen food aisle. Stood in front of ice cream display for 10 minutes just enjoying the coolness. BUT – I didn’t get any! Thumbs up! I treated myself to some of those Greek style yogurts everyone is talking about instead. They are super creamy, but personally I like a little more fruit in my yogurt.

Whenever I go grocery shopping, I like to imagine that I’m in a competition and the judges are holding up signs rating the contents of my cart. Yesterday’s trip was a definite 10. Lots of fruits & veggies, a few whole grains, some dairy. The closest I got to processed food was some of those fruit snack cups in 100% juice. They are expensive, but handy when that “snackish” feeling comes on that might otherwise drive one to 7-11 for chips & soda. Oh, and I also got some precooked steak strips. Makes it a lot more likely that I will actually make a salad for dinner with some steak strips thrown on top for the men in the house.

And yes, we did have steak salad for dinner last night! I do like regular salad dressing. Low-fat and fat-free dressings feel weird in my mouth. Besides, a girl needs a few calories to keep her going! Woman cannot survive on salad alone! I used just a dab and it made all the difference.

I did stop at Mickey D’s on the way home – it was so hot and I needed a drink! – and then when I got there it seemed silly to just get a drink… so I had some lunch too. But I eschewed the usual value meal & got the kid’s meal instead. I happen to know that it’s only 12 WW points for the cheeseburger Happy Meal (with diet soda), plus I can save the toy to throw in my prize box at school. Bonus! (For comparison’s sake, a value meal is 24 points, minimum.)

Tip of the day: Make sure when you’re eating all that roughage that you throw a little garlic in there. I have it on good authority that zombies hate garlic farts. Hold on a sec… *holds finger to earpiece* I’m sorry, I’m being told that it is vampires who hate garlic farts. My bad.  Oh well. Can’t hurt to keep the vampires away as well!

  1. steak salad sounds delish! (amen to regular dressing. the low cal/low fat fare is dreck!)

i ❤ garlic, however, i'm trying to ATTRACT vampires not send them running back to the coffin. because as we all know, "the vampire love the ladies".
